Gornja Stubica - map location
Gornja Stubica a village on the north-western slopes of Medvednica Mountain in the region of Hrvatsko Zagorje, 4 km southeast of Donja Stubica; elevation 234 m. Among several sacral monuments and church St. George is well known and close to it (400 m) 400 years old lime tree GUPČEVA LIPA which for the residents of the area are the symbol of peasant up-rise and indestructibility.
Near is the castle of the Counts Oršić, with the permanent exhibition of the objects of peasants’ up-rise. Nearby is the big monument to the peasant up-rise in 1573.
The wide known cultural-artistic association “Matija Gubec” is active with its mixed vocal group “Magnificat”,and brass orchestra of firemen. Here are held many cultural and sports events, as well as art exhibitions. The future of the place is development of craftsmanship, agriculture and tourism.
