Klanjec a town on the southern slopes of Cesargradska Gora Mountain in the region of Hrvatsko Zagorje, 55 km northwest of Zagreb; elevation 263 m. Economy is based on farming, livestock breeding, cotton mills and quarries. Klanjec with its rich history has always been the important administrative and business centre. In the Friars building very valuable objects of historical wealth are conserved which illustrate six centuries of the town.

Klanjec is the seat of very skilful craftsmen, merchants and educated people. It is also the seat of popular and great personalities such as the writer Jambrešić, linguist F. Iveković and Broz, architect Iveković, painter O. Iveković and here lived the well-known sculptor A. Augustinčić whose inheritance the popular gallery has conserved. The author of the Croatian hymn Lijepa Naša, A. Mihanović, has also lived and worked in Klanjec.

The future of the region should be composed of the development of private enterprises in agriculture, tourism and in the production of the healthy food.
