Krapinske Toplice a town, health resort and thermal spa in Hrvatsko Zagorje, 17 km southwest of Krapina and 46 km northwest of Zagreb. According to the 2001 census, there are 5,744 inhabitants in the area. Under the name “Aquae Vivae” Krapinske Toplice, as a spa, was known in the Roman times. The intensive construction of the place started in the 19th century, when all warm mineral springs were capped and collected to make pools and to open the known thermal spa. Jakob Badel initiated the construction and the opening of the Spa. Krapinske Toplice is a tourist centre famous for its thermal-mineral water springs, which constitute the basis of development of tourism.
His mausoleum is situated on the hill Marija Magdalena, above the place. Krapinske Toplice is on 160 m altitude and has a mild continental climate. Owing to very mild climate, and to the 30-50ºC temperature of its thermal water, Krapinske Toplice has become the destination of health tourism, with special recreation hospital. In 1996 the hospital for cardiovascular surgery “Magdalena” was opened, in which the firstopen-heartoperationwas performed in 1998.
